It was the most awaited show of Lakme Fashion Week and Sabyasachi Mukherjee didn't disappoint with his Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, Sanctuary.
The designer took the audience on a journey into the realm of a fashion fantasy, that only he could create. It had everything that fashion lovers could ask for.
A bit of sportswear, a splash of couture with silhouettes which were reminiscent of the 50s and 70s with loads of colour.
Working with some contemporary cuts in retro prints which were so diverse that they could be too avant garde for the average fashion follower, Sabyasachi had lean shapes, volume and retro chic.
The master stylist and creator of unusual fabric and style mixes, Sabyasachi used plastic, linen, snake and crocodile leather, chiffon, course cotton, hard painted satin, distressed leather and a lot of zippers to seam the garments.
From checked pant suits to shimmering sequined saris and glitzy batwing kaftans, Sabyasachi presented a line of pleated baby doll tops, brought in some rose prints, metallic fabrics for trousers and skirts and had the most beautiful layered scalloped dresses like the white satin mini, the shaded black shining dress, the drop waist maxi pinafores, some tiny micro skirts and mini swing textured jackets.
The red sari with a black and cream pleated border was breathtaking while the embroidered coats were stylish. Slim pencil skirts and dresses had a wild mix of fabrics prints and colours which are Sabyasachi's signature style.
The hairdos were very ethnic with feathers and parandis decorating the styles. Sabyasachi Mukherjee's sanctuary collection was one of the most sensational showings of the Lakme Fashion Week once again proving that he is the master of styling and elegance.
