Deepti Toor is a designer known for her experiments with craft weaves and prints of India and for Autumn/Winter 2008 at the Lakme Fashion Week she presented one of the simplest minimalist collection ever seen.
Having already worked with the ikat weave by turning it into a more contemporary styles in the past and then worked with the Warli painters earlier, Deepti's line of knee length dresses with Benarse silk in three shades – grey lilac and fuchsia combined all the three groups.
The traditional ikat was innovated with blurred patterns of Warli paintings on the silk and the result was a very discreet effect that created elegant women's wear.
The all western line comprised long sleeved shirt dresses, shifts, pencil dresses, skirts and blouses. The silhouettes were body hugging with relaxed shoulders for the tops, while detailing included cap sleeves, diagonal yokes and broad contrast piping to highlight the edges.
Starting with a smart shirt dress with a back tie-up at the waist; Deepti moved onto a mix of light and dark grey yokes some at a diagonal angle; and teamed them with mandarin collars, piping at belt, and hem or on the collar, a roll collar sheath with three front pleats a dress with large lilac cape collar and ended with a striking grey dress with fuchsia highlights on the V neck, belt and cuffs.
It was a pure prêt line which Deepti Toor created once again which will work very well for most months of the year as wellas with the buyers around the globe.
